Your first visit, step by step
A first visit takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Nothing is done without your agreement.
- Arrive and check in. Come 10 to 15 minutes early. The front desk helps with your patient forms and confirms your insurance.
- Talk it through. Dr. Ibrahim Sayeed asks about your dental history, your health and medicines, and anything that worries you, before he looks at your teeth.
- Your exam. He checks your teeth, gums, bite and jaw, and screens for signs of oral cancer.
- X-rays, if needed. Digital X-rays show decay between teeth and below the gum. If you bring recent X-rays from another dentist, we may not need new ones.
- A cleaning, if booked. A routine cleaning can be done at the same visit. If you need a deep cleaning, it’s booked separately.
- Your plan. You see what he found, hear your options in plain language and get any costs in writing before you decide.

If you’re nervous, or it’s been a while
Many patients come to us after years away from a dentist. Nobody is lectured about the past: the first visit is about where your teeth are now.
- Tell us when you book, so the visit isn’t rushed.
- Ask Dr. Sayeed to explain each step before he starts.
- Raise a hand at any time to stop for a break.
- Bring someone with you if that helps.
After your first visit
If everything looks healthy
You’ll book your next checkup and cleaning, usually in six months.
If you need treatment
You choose when to book it. Dr. Sayeed explains what’s urgent and what can wait, and your written estimate shows what insurance is expected to pay.
If something is urgent
We fit you in as soon as we can, and the emergency dentistry page explains what to do in the meantime.

How long is a first dental appointment?
About 60 to 90 minutes, including your check-in, the conversation with Dr. Sayeed, your exam, any X-rays and a cleaning if it’s booked.
Will I get a cleaning at my first visit?
Usually, if it’s booked with your visit. If your gums need a deep cleaning, it’s scheduled as a separate appointment.
Do I need new X-rays?
Only if they’re needed to check your teeth. Recent X-rays from your last dentist can often be used instead, so ask them to send them.
What if I haven’t seen a dentist in years?
That’s common, and you won’t be judged. The first visit finds out where things stand and what, if anything, needs doing first.
Do you see teenagers?
Yes, from age 15. A parent or guardian comes to the first visit to sign the consent forms.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. A partner, friend or family member is welcome to come in with you.
