What happens if you don’t replace a missing tooth?
A gap isn’t only about looks. Over months and years it can change your bite.
- Neighbouring teeth tip into the space
- The opposite tooth grows down into the gap
- The jawbone where the tooth was slowly shrinks
- Chewing moves to one side, wearing other teeth faster
- New gaps trap food, raising the risk of decay and gum disease

What are the options for replacing a missing tooth?
Each option has its own page with the details. Here’s how they compare at a glance.
| Option | Best suited to | Fixed or removable | Teeth next to the gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dental implant | One or more teeth, with enough bone | Fixed | Left untouched |
| Bridge | One to three teeth in a row | Fixed | Reshaped to hold the bridge |
| Partial denture | Several teeth in different places | Removable | Clasps rest on them |
| Full denture | All the teeth in an arch | Removable, or held by implants | None left |

Implant or bridge: which is right for you?
An implant replaces the root, so it stands alone and helps keep the jawbone. It takes several months, mostly healing time, and needs enough bone and good general health.
A bridge is quicker, usually a few weeks, and needs no surgery. It relies on the teeth beside the gap, which are reshaped for crowns, so it works well when those teeth already need repair.
What if several or all teeth are missing? A partial denture, an implant bridge, or a full denture, which can be held firmly by implants. Dr. Sayeed plans these with a 3D CBCT scan.
How Dr. Sayeed helps you decide

- Every option explained, including leaving the gap, with the pros, timing and upkeep of each.
- Your insurance checked before you commit. Many plans cover part of a bridge or denture, and some cover implants.
- Payment over time with CareCredit or Cherry if you want it.
